Buying A New Puppy - Can You Afford It?
Your seven year old son has been tormenting you for a family pet dog . Your spouse thinks it is time for you to think about it. So you are contemplating buying a dog.
You are fairly well off, and possess a good sized house with a huge front garden and back yard, and feel you could supply a good home for a dog.
But wait; there is much more to it than the question of living space, a dog is adopted and brought home to become another member of the family, for life. Stay with me to find out what is involved to adopt and bring into the home a new dog.
The number one and most important point is MONEY. You must be affluent enough to afford the recurring expenditure of having a pet dog.
1. Food. - Dogs must not be fed the leftovers or scraps from your table, they need to get high quality unique pet food and that costs money.
2. Vet Bills - Dogs are supposed to visit a vet on a continuous basis. Healthy dogs require regular worming and other essential treatments; this is as well as the need to be taken to the vet because it has not been keeping too well, and veterinary bills can be very expensive.
3. Dog Accessories. - There is need for a domesticated dog to have items specially manufactured for it, and the two most required items are the dog crate and the dog bed, and both these items can be a bit expensive.
The dog would also need , chew toys, name tags, feeding bowls, leashes, collars, an outdoor kennel, and many more items of like nature, that are essential to the animal's well being, and which all cost quite a bit of money.
Another essential expenditure is the much needed puppy training classes, which are an undeniable help in training a dog to be the well behaved and disciplined pet that everyone would love. Such training classes are expensive.
Do you have enough money to spend on the dog without it hurting you and the family? If yes, let us move on to the second most important aspect, TIME.
A Canine is a social animal, and will grow to be an healthy and well mannered dog, only if it gets to spend enough time with its pack leader - you.
What amount of time can you reserve every single day to dedicate to the puppy you have intentions of adopting? Additionally there are occasions, when you might have to simply forget about everything on hand and devote every minute to the dog.
Even if you have the financial means to cater for the dogs material needs as described above, if you cannot find the time to spend with the animal on a daily basis, especially in its formative months, then it may just be a dog, is positively not the right type of pet for you.
