We wanted to get a card for efficiency but we did not want to build up any debt with any of the credit card businesses. That way we could not ever have to figure out how to get rid of credit card debt. We had both been brought up with the lessons that if you want some-thing you wait til you have the money to buy it. You never have to get rid of credit card debt that way. We both received many offers from the different credit card businesses because we had such a great history of paying bills on schedule. We determined that we would check around for the credit-card companies that would give us the most rewards - much easier than getting rid of credit card debt. We weren't concerned about having a low-interest rate because we were in full agreement that any-thing that was put on a card would be repaid off before finance charges would accumulate. This is some-thing that we have done a fantastic job of sticking to during the twenty five years which we have been married.
Throughout the years we have had different cards. We now have a major credit-card sponsored by a sports goods company that my spouse buys from on a consistent basis. We get points that covert in to dollars toward the purchase of things in that store. When he is looking to buy something in particular we will place a good number of our monthly expenditures on this card & then pay it off so that he gets the points toward his purchases. This is a fantastic program that most of the big credit card businesses have. It is a way of getting free goods off of things that you need to purchase. It is also less complicated to pay one large bill at the end of every month.
