Unsurprisingly enough, the most standard reaction to the above is "what is the distinction between testing & playing?" Well, its rather simple to tell you the truth. Whenever you play video-games, you would explore & "beat" a level and then proceed onto the next one. Whenever you are responsible for TESTING a video-game, you'll explore & conquer a level after which you'll RESTART that area and play through it again & again. You won't repeat this 1 time, 2 times, or 3 times. The fact is, you are going to do this far more times than you can count until eventually you have uncovered every one of the glitches & bugs in the level. This might mean grinding out a specific section of a video-game a few dozen times, if not MORE, to make certain that you have uncovered all of the game's possible issues. Seriously now, does this seem like a "exciting job" to you? Probably NOT!
Now, don't get the wrong idea here. Paid video game testers will be able to have plenty of fun doing testing assignments -- you just need to realize that the fun is not near the amount some gamers believe it is. Instead of drinking soft drinks, eating tons of fast food, and spending time with buddies enjoying awesome videogames, professional testers are literally working to make video games more fun for the hordes of waiting gamers out there.
