The face of gaming has changed very much, not just in the last decade, but even just a year or two. It wasn't very long ago, that we were sitting close to our TVs, hard wired to our gaming machines via our controllers. We waited many years for companies to come out with cordless controllers which weren't a bulky, clunky general rip off, we desired the real deal.
We ultimately got it, and before we knew it, we were being sold controllers that you had to simply move or point at the screen! The technologies seemed to go beyond the needs of the customer, and now was waiting on consumers to catch up. The PC game controller always seemed to be highly advanced in the mid 90s and early 2000s, but it always had to be pushing itself with titles like flight simulators and the likes.
The USB game controller was always spot on and easy to program to work on any game you desired, but anyhow always came across as a job only for nerds. PC gaming controllers needed to step back a bit, and think about home consoles for a bit of help. Its only when this happened that games began to flourish in general range of gaming. Suddenly Xbox controllers that could be used with PC's made gaming so much more appealing and open to the mass gaming community.
Suddenly everyone is playing FIFA Soccer or NFL Madden on non specific gaming machines all around the world. And it didn't only work one way, with the aid of non specific gaming machines, home consoles became Web ready and harnessed the power of online gaming, the once highly guarded fence of the PC was now changing the landscape of home gaming forever.
Who knows what the next several years will bring? Will the PC companies go beyond user requirements and needs yet again? Will it be all free from controllers - gaming like the latest Xbox Kinetic system or will we have chips in our brains and just close our eyes & watch as the game develops in our minds? Who knows, but one thing is for sure, exciting times lie ahead of us!
