Many single mothers work over 40 hours a week to support their children, with minimal help from welfare or errant fathers. Yet, they are given less money than other women, if they are hired at all. They have minimal support and must hire someone to care for the kids while they are at work. If they become ill, their position can be desperate, both in terms of money and childcare.
Some years ago, the government census estimated that over 10 million single mothers reside in the US. Lots of these single mothers are grouping together in local organizations to carry the fight for single mums rights.
